Term – Card Holder Data
Summary – Cardholder data is about the information pertaining to a card holder’s account, mainly associated sensitive information. While this data is required for successful transactions it is also a lucrative target for fraud if it is not properly stored and secured. This is true with both traditional merchant account programs and even a cash discount programs.
In order to reduce the likelihood of breaches and fraud, the industry created the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) which required merchants to implement strict security measures or face penalties.
